Tamarack

Addressing underlying needs to prevent crime

  • Tamarack is a form of Court Diversion designed to assist adults who have substance use or mental health treatment needs.
  • County prosecutors decide who to refer to Tamarack.

"The Tamarack program was one of the most crucial and helpful tools to my sobriety and court cases."

Tamarack court diversion program in Vermont

  • To participate in Tamarack, a person must take responsibility for their actions.
  • Staff help participants access treatment or other resources that support the person’s health and reduce future involvement in the criminal justice system.
  • Participants also work to repair the harm caused through a restorative justice  process.
  • Information for victims is available here.

After successfully completing Tamarack, the charges against the person are dismissed and records are expunged two years later if the person does not face another criminal charge.
